MCSL Team Reps Meeting Minutes

04-02-2009

Special Note to all reps: DO NOT park in the bank/law firm parking lot that is beside the EOB cafeteria during rep meetings or your car may be towed.

1. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by President Sally MacKenzie at 8:04 at the Executive Office Building Cafeteria in Rockville. The following teams were NOT signed in: James Creek.

2. Vendor Presentations: Mike O’Brien from Underwater Wear (any items with MCSL logos on them purchased from Underwater Wear include a donation to the league) and Nicole Ventura from Ventura Team Photography.

3. Health Department Licensing: John Horton from the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Licensure & Regulatory Services presented information, and distributed handouts on, licensing for situations where food is available.  Licenses are needed for  public events that involve people from outside of the individual team (e.g., another team).  Fees for these licenses vary depending on the type of food being prepared and the pool organization’s tax status (Nonprofit organizations, having a 501c status, are eligible for reduced license fees).  License applications must be submitted at least 2 days prior to event.  Pools with licensed snack bars are encouraged to do concessions through their snack bars.

The purpose of these licenses is to ensure that food is prepared, handled, and distributed in a manner that does not support bacterial growth.  Coffee, donuts, bagels are examples of nonpotentially hazardous (they do not support bacterial growth).  Burgers, chicken, hot dogs, cut fruit are examples of potentially hazardous items and may not be prepared at home.  Regarding bake sales, only non-custard and non-fruit items are considered nonpotentially hazardous, but even these items must be individually wrapped and labeled by the baker.

Teams are encouraged to contact Licensure & Regulatory Services staff in advance of events where food will be available.  Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 240-777-3986.  The office is located 255 Rockville Pike, Second Floor.

The new Virginia Graham Baker act also impacts pools this season as it addresses requirements for main drain covers & trapment protection. Recommended that pools check with their management company to make sure pool is compliant with this new act.
