MCSL REPRESENTATIVES MEETING
MINUTES OF 3/11/04
**IMPORTANT** - Next Meeting: Remember the next meeting is this Thursday April 1, 2004! This is a very important meeting for the Reps. 1) Divisional Assignments: You will be deciding which teams are responsible for the following duties in your respective divisions. RELAY CARNIVAL, Host and Assist Teams. DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Host and Assist Teams. AUTOMATION LIASON. ALL-STAR OFFICIALS. Some divisions may have another item or two but these should be decided this meeting. If your team is not prepared to volunteer to help your division or is not represented at this meeting, be prepared to have a job chosen for you by your fellow division members. 2) Invoices for the 2004 fees are due by this meeting. Checks should be sent with a copy of your invoice and please note your team name on the check. If you have not already mailed your check to Sally MacKenzie please bring it with you to the meeting. 3) Please check your team data on the Web Page under “Team and Division Info” and email all changes to web@mcsl.org as soon as possible. Even if you do not have all the info please make any corrections you have at this time as the deadline for the handbook is quickly approaching.
Rule Re-write: The rules re-write is available for review on the website. If you have any corrections or constructive criticism please email to rules@mcsl.org .
2004 Budget: Budget was presented and approved by the membership.
2004 Dues Invoices: Invoices were picked up and are due by the April 1 meeting. Contact Sally MacKenzie if you have questions about your dues. Be sure to note on your invoice if you need extra Handbooks. This may be a good year to do this as they will have changed substantially.
New Rules: There were no new rules for consideration by the membership. Most comments received about rules this year were addressed by clarifying the rules in the re-write. A member brought up the “No Jewelry” rule observed in High School Swimming. MCSL does not plan to observe this rule. As a clarification, Bill Ferguson mentioned the MCSL or neutral Team Swimsuit and Cap rule which should be enforced only at the Coaches Long Coarse and All-Star meets.
Highlight Rules Clarifications: A member requested that the Board attempt to highlight any major changes in the re-write. The Board will attempt to do this but may not be able to due to time constraints. As noted above you may still read through the re-write on the website. It is about 20 pages.
Sarah Auer Scholarship: Amy Hsu with Poolesville discussed the scholarship that will be graciously offered to an MCSL swimmer by the Auer family from proceeds generated by the fund raising memorial Swim for Sarah last summer. Details are available on the webpage.
Hy-Tek Software: There are no new requirements this year for the Team/Meet Manager Software. However, Mike Lincoln suggested that you go to the Hy-Tek website and make sure you have down loaded any updates for your software.
B-Meet, Finisher Ribbons, etc.: Ribbons may be ordered through Tracey Glass at awards@mcsl.org . You must order soon to have them for this season.
Six Flags: The date for this year’s Six Flags Swim Spectacular is Monday July 12, 2004. For ticket or other info contact Tracey Glass at traceyglass@aol.com or call at 301-869-7712.
Colorado Starting Systems: Jim Garner will place an order with Colorado in late May. He will need a minimum order of six units to get the following prices which are higher than last year but still discounted from those purchased individually. Starter & Mic - $750, Tripod - $170, Extra Speaker with extension cable - $150. Any questions contact Jim at rules@mcsl.org .
Officials Clinics: Although all the venues are not established as of yet, the dates for the clinics are as follows. ADVANCED REFEREE RECERTIFICATION (For Referees Certified or Previously Certified in the last 2 years, ONLY!) – May 24 or 26 at Olney 7PM. FULL CLINICS – Sunday June 6 8AM Olney, Sunday June 13 8AM Olney, Wednesday June 16 (Evening, site and time TBD). STROKE & TURN ONLY – TUESDAY June 22 6:30PM (Site TBD). **Please Note**: We are looking for a host pool with a sheltered area or meeting room adjacent to a pool. The area or room would need to hold approx 100 people or more and we would also need to have a section of their pool to be closed off to host the Stroke & Turn Only Clinic. Please contact Frank Magnanelli or Dave Mengering at clinics@mcsl.org .
Automation Clinics: Dates and Venues had not been established as of this meeting. These are usually run toward the end of May or beginning of June. We will attempt to avoid having Automation and Official’s clinics on the same time and day if at all possible.
Meet Schedule Divisions O & N: Teams from Divisions O & N in attendance at this meeting met to discuss the revised meet schedule with Bob Hincke. It is available on the website if you need it.
Respectfully submitted,
Dave Mengering
