Montgomery County Swim League

Representatives’ Meeting

Minutes of May 8, 2003

Call to Order:  Marty Cohen called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.

Advertisers:  The following MCSL Handbook advertisers gave presentations to the membership:

                        Crown Trophy

                        Six Flags

Please support our advertisers.  Their support helps us fund our programs.

Manchester Farm announced a meet that they will be hosting; contact Ginny Allsopp for more information.

Treasurer’s report:  All teams have paid their dues; however, a few had billing errors.  Those teams were asked to see Jim Garner.

Team transfers:  Please advise families that want to transfer teams without a move of  residence that they need to email rules@mcsl.org by May 16 with their reasons for seeking a transfer.

Pleasantview:  At the end of the April meeting, Pleasantview decided to withdraw from the MCSL.  Since Pleasantview will not be competing in the 2003 season, swimmers who swam for Pleasantview last year may join another pool and swim for that team without requesting a transfer.  Pleasantview’s withdrawal creates a hole in “N” division.  Mike Kelley is trying to help “N” division teams fill their schedules.  He asked any larger teams that might be interested in having their “B” team compete in an “N” division meet to contact him.

Automation:

Software.  Teams are encouraged to purchase Team Manager II, Version 3 from Hy-Tek.  The cost is about $17.  Mike Lincoln is notifying Hy-Tek of our new teams so that they may purchase Team Manager II, Version 3 with MCSL’s group discount.  There is no new version of Meet Manager, but teams should download the latest Meet Manager update from the Hy-Tek website.

Clinics.  Dates and times for automation clinics are on the web.  Teams should send at least one automation person to a clinic even if they have experienced people.  Clinic attendees should bring laptops with software installed and with either a CD-ROM or a floppy drive.  We hope to have templates available at the clinics and on the web.

Awards:  MCSL dual meet, relay carnival, and divisional awards were distributed.  Please check the pool name on your ribbons to be sure it is correct.  If there are any problems, contact Tracey.  Also in your awards bags should be a package from advertiser Lamb Awards & Engraving.

Handbook:  MCSL handbooks were distributed.  They will be available at the clinics for purchase.  The price is $2.

Forms:  Forms (DQ cards, take-off cards, etc.) will be available for download from the web.  MCSL will supply teams with relay cards and cover sheets at the June meeting.

Starting systems:  If you need to purchase a new Colorado system, contact Jim Garner.  It would be an excellent idea to test your starting system now, and not wait until the morning of time trials to discover your system doesn’t work.  There was not enough interest in a Colorado tune-up clinic to schedule one.

Officials’ Clinics:   The clinic dates in the handbook are wrong.  Please check the web for the correct dates, and for the dates and locations of the last full service clinic and the stroke and turn only clinic, which have yet to be finalized.

“B” meets:  Order forms for “B” meet ribbons, finisher ribbons, and personal best ribbons are available from Tracey Glass.  Teams trying to round out their “B” meet schedules can contact Mike Kelley (mentor@mcsl.org).

Six Flags:  Tracey Glass will again be coordinating the MCSL day at Six Flags’.  She has order forms—all payments must be by team, not personal, check.  Make the check out to Six Flags.

Next Meeting:  The next meeting will be held at the Executive Office Building cafeteria on Thursday, June 12, 2003, 8:00 pm.  Coaches should arrive about 8:30 pm for the coaches’ clinic.  There will also be a clinic after the meeting on the “green book” for meet managers, new reps, and anyone else who could use a refresher on meet operations.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally MacKenzie
