Iona Brown awardPlease send your nominations for this award, presented in memory of long-time rep Iona Brown to a person who best exemplifies the spirit and values of the MCSL, as soon as possible.  The award is presented at All Stars.  Email all nominations to president@mcsl.org

2004 Calendar:  The membership voted on the following calendar for the 2004 season:

1st meet—June 19

                                    2nd meet—June 26

                                    3rd meet—July 3

                                    Long Course—July 13

                                    4th meet—July 10

                                    5th meet—July 17

                                    Divisionals—July 24

                                    All Stars—July 31 & Aug. 1

Automation:  Do not change the date or name of your meet from the template, even if you swim the meet on a different day.  N Division should send a back up of their meets direction to MCSL automation.

Parking for invitational meets:  Coaches’ Invitational Long Course and the All Star meets are held at the Rockville Swim Center.  Parking has been an issue in the past.  Please have all your attendees note the parking procedures for these meets—the procedures are posted on our website.

Long CourseFinal Long Course seedings are posted.  Please let automation@mcsl.org know of any scratches.  Only whole meet scratches are possible now, but we would like to know as soon as possible if a swimmer will not be coming to the meet so we can alert the alternate that he or she will swim.  We do not want to have empty lanes.  This meet is PVS-sanctioned.  Warm up begin at 6 pm—check the web for details.  Swimmers and coaches who wish to practice starts can do so Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9 am.  Long Course t-shirts should be available for pick-up at the awards table.  They are batched by team—please have a responsible person from your team pick them up for your group.  Swimmers who qualified as alternates also receive t-shirts.

Relay All StarsRelays that placed first at their divisional relay meet but which contained swim ups are not eligible to swim at All Stars.  Division automation liaisons should let Bob Hincke know of any teams that included swim ups so that he can seed Relay All Stars properly.  This year Section I, Divisions A-G, will include wild card slots; Section II, Divisions H-O, will not.  Section I swims first.

Staffing All StarsEach division has assigned one team the job of collecting officials for the Relay and Individual All Star meets.  Please begin sending those names, with phone numbers and email addresses, to Jim Garner at competition@mcsl.org.  If you have not already begun this process, please complete it at your divisional seeding meeting and forward the names and contact information immediately after.  It was suggested that water be distributed during the meet to timers.

RecordsSubmit all MCSL records to Mary Parker.  Email her at records@mcsl.org, and send her the lane/timer sheet or card with the required signatures of referee, head timer, and lane timers.

Six Flags:  As of July 10, tickets were still available.

B meet ribbonsB meet ribbons are still available from Tracey Glass; however, there are no more finisher ribbons.

Retiring repsThe reps who will be retiring from that position were recognized for their hard work.  Please send the email address of new reps to Bob Hincke (web@mcsl.org) as soon as you know it so we can be sure your team continues to receive MCSL information.

September meeting:  The September meeting (September 11) is optional.  Please feel free to come and discuss the 2003 season.  Any rule changes or rule clarifications should be submitted by that meeting—you can email your proposed rules to rules@mcsl.org.    The membership will not meet again until February 12, 2004.  Please email Bob Hincke with any changes to team contact information as it becomes available over the off-season.  Bob will look into the possibility of a blind email list for announcements.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally MacKenzie
