Minutes of
Call to Order: Marty Cohen called the meeting to order at
Advertisers: The following MCSL Handbook supporters gave presentations to the membership:

Their support helps us fund our programs.
MCSL meet materials: MCSL Handbooks, ribbons, and meet management (green) books were distributed. Medals for divisionals and relays were given to hosting teams; however, the ribbons for those meets did not arrive. Those will be distributed at the June meeting.
Handbook errors: Unfortunately, there are a few errors in the handbook. The errors discovered to date include:
Backstroke turn
rule: When updating the
Officials Handbook, we discovered that the NCAA wording of the backstroke turn
rule is not the same as the high school wording and is, in fact, too
restrictive. It was too late to make the
change in the MCSL Handbook; however, the correct wording is in the Officials
Handbook that is available at the Officials Clinics. It will also be posted on the web.
Treasury report: Jim Garner is taking any remaining dues payments.
Automation: Dates for computer training have been set and
will be up on the web. The training is
expected to take 2 to 2 ˝ hours and attendees should bring a laptop computer if
possible. The dates, times, and
locations are: Sunday, May 19,
Transfers: The window for swimmers to petition to change
teams without a change in residence closes on May 16. Any families interested in changing teams
under this provision should email Bill Ferguson at rules@mcsl.org by the 16th.
Web: If you have filled a coaching position that is advertised on our site, please let Bob Hincke know (web@mcsl.org) so that he can mark the position as filled.
Meet management
(green) book: Each team received
two copies of the 2002 edition of the green book. The discussion on weather awareness was
updated as well as a section on B meet advice.
The Board encourages all teams to work closely with their pool
management companies when determining if inclement weather necessitates
stopping a swim meet. In addition, the
Board strongly recommends that all teams hold their B meet swimmers to the same
stroke and turn criteria as their A meet swimmers. The green book was also updated to reflect
the meet management changes due to the new Meet Manager computer program. However, in case of any question regarding
computer issues, meet managers and reps should refer to the Leagues Computer
Operations Manual.
Officials: The list of certified officials is on the
web. Anyone certified in 2000 or earlier
needs to recertify this year. If PVS
officials want to use their PVS certification in stroke and turn or starter for
MCSL certification, they should email officials@mcsl.org.
The dates for officials clinics were announced and are posted on the web. The advanced clinic for referee
recertification is May 22,
Awards: Dual meet awards were distributed. Please contact Tracey Glass, awards@mcsl.org, if you have any problems (misspellings, shortages, etc.) If you need personal best and B meet ribbons, contact Tracey. The order form will be posted on the web.
Six Flags: Tracey Glass is again handling tickets for the Six Flags America Swim Spectacular Day on Monday, July 15. You can order tickets by mail up to a week before the event (be sure to include the appropriate payment with your order) or you may pick them up as late as the day before at Tracey’s house. Tracey said that there was plenty of food on the meal voucher for the price. Contact Tracey for details on this event.
B-Meets: Mike Kelley can provide limited help in matching teams that need B-meets. Email him at mentor@mcsl.org.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held at the
