Montgomery County Swim League

Representatives Meeting

Minutes of July 11, 2002

Call to Order:  Marty Cohen called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.

Long Course:  Information concerning Long Course is posted on the web.  Please pay special attention to the parking information.  Reps can pick up their team’s t-shirts at the awards table.  There will be no clerk of course at this meet.

Disqualifications:  We have received a number of protests this season dealing with DQ’s that were not brought to the coaches’ attention during the meet.  Please remind your referees that they should tell the coach at the end of the event when a swimmer has been DQ’d.

Iona Brown Award:  Please get your nominations for the Iona Brown Award into Marty Cohen (president@mcsl.org) immediately.  This award, named for one of our long-time reps who died prematurely, is presented at All Stars and recognizes an individual for outstanding service to the league and for exemplifying in the division in which their team competed the principles of dedication and sportsmanship that form the basis of the league’s programs.

Automation:  Bob Hincke will post preliminary psyche sheets for All Star Relays after relay carnival results come in.  Please notify him immediately if your team will need to scratch.  (One rep suggested that if you have a swimmer or team scratch at the last minute, it is very nice to contact the alternates to let them know that they may well be swimming.)  In your dual meets, be sure you correct the relay scoring in the meet manager programs for events 49 and 50 before you run the program.

All Star Officials:  It is time for the team in each division responsible for locating officials for the All Star meets to begin sending to competition@mcsl.org the names of people in your division who can work these meets.  Please include the name, pool, phone number, email address, and which meet—Individuals or Relays—the person can work.

Awards:  Please contact Tracey Glass, awards@mcsl.org, if you need personal best, finisher, or B meet ribbons.

Records:  Since we have two new events this year—the 175m freestyle relays—there will be new league records.  There is no special form to fill out; however, there is a definite procedure to follow.  If you have a league record achieved at your pool, you should have all three timers on the lane, as well as the head timer and the referee, sign the lane/timer sheet.  The original of this sheet should then be sent to Mary Parker, the league records chairperson.

B Meets:  Bill Bullough urged “A” reps to get involved in the “B” program if the “B” meets are running late.  “B” meets neet to be run efficiently with some experienced officials, good head timers, and a chief judge.  Coaches should not put any swimmer in any meet who has not demonstrated in practice that he or she is fundamentally legal in the stroke to be swum.

Next Meeting:  There is no meeting in August.  The next meeting will be held at the Executive Office Building cafeteria on Thursday, September 12, 2002, 8:00 pm.  It is at this meeting that the team reps vote on the calendar for the 2003 season.  Please be sure that a representative from your team is present.

Respectfully submitted,

Sally MacKenzie
