Montgomery County Swim League

Representatives Meeting

Minutes of July 8, 1999

Call to Order: Frank Negro called the meeting to order at 8:10 pm.

President’s Report: Frank reminded the reps to begin thinking about nominations for the Iona Brown award. He also reiterated that the MCSL exists "for the kids" and all meets should be run with this in mind.

There was some discussion of how B Meets are organized and a request for more guidelines from the MCSL. Frank has copies of the MCSL Guidelines for B Meets. There should be agreement between reps and coaches as to the format of B Meets.

There was a request that more information on disqualifications from the USS Rule Book be included in the MCSL Handbook.

Rules Committee: Carol Nickel reported that 2 protests had been received by the Rules Committee. She reminded the reps that any requests for changes to the rules should be brought to the September meeting. Requests will be accepted until November 1999.

Carol pointed out that a recent article in the Montgomery Journal incorrectly stated that a swimmer could not swim both relays and the IM – they can swim all three (see rule 15E on page 44 of the MCSL handbook.)

Automation: Mike Lincoln reported that the tentative plans for next year are to switch to MM 8.2 and CL 6.x (the league will provide copies to the teams). The DOS versions will not be supported next year, so teams should plan on purchasing WinTM. It is anticipated that the cost to each team will be between $100 and $200. Computer upgrades to Pentium 200MHz and 32mb RAM will also be required. It will be important to use new USS ID numbers next year as well.

Mike is still waiting for some Relay Carnival results. The Relay All-Star seedings will most likely not be available at the Long Course.

Bob Palian reported that scratches for Individual All-Stars must be in by 6:00pm on July 25th. The Divisional meet results may not have been posted by that time.

Competition Committee: Jim Garner had a Coaches’ Long Course handout with information on times, parking, etc. Warm-ups are from 6:00 to 6:50pm. The meet starts at 7:00pm. Swimmers can come to the pool on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:00am to try out the blocks.

Bob Palian reported that there was a mistake in the boys 9-10 freestyle seedings. There will be 2 heats of that event. Updated seedings will be posted on Saturday, July 10th.

Long Course T-shirt orders must be faxed to Aardvark by noon this Friday (July 9th).

Sally MacKenzie reported that Good Luck messages for the Long Course programs should be in by tonight. Information is on the web.

Jim reminded the reps that each division must supply 2 timers for Individual All-Stars and 6 timers for Relay All-Stars. Timers and other officials must be submitted with the Divisional Results on July 24th.

This year, the Relay All-Stars will reverse the order. Section I (Divisions A – G) will swim first; Section II (Divisions H – N) will swim second.

There will be a Special Olympics Relay swum during the All-Star meets. Details will be posted on the web.

Records: Mary Parker reported that 2 MCSL records had been broken so far this year:

Greg Pfister (DA) boys 8&U 25m free - 15.56

Sean Stewart (NMC) boys 8&U 25m back - 18.44

Adjournment and Next Meeting: The meeting was adjourned at 8:40pm. There will be no meeting in August. The next meeting will be September 9th, 1999 at 8:00pm in the Executive Office Building Cafeteria.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Parker
