Presidents Report: Frank Negro made the presentation of the Iona Brown Award which is given in appreciation for outstanding service to the MCSL. This year there are 2 recipients:
Bill Nolte who has served as an active member of the MCSL board for many years and as a team rep for Calverton.
Bob Hincke, the team rep for Lake Marion, who was nominated by the teams in H Division for his work as Automation Liaison.
Frank also announced that Bob Hincke will be the new Web Master for the MCSL.
Handbooks: Carl Kaiser will have the 1999 Handbooks available at the May meeting.
Treasurers Report: Bill Ferguson reported that several teams still need to pick up their 1999 bills. All fees must be paid before the May meeting in order to receive awards and handbooks.
Competition Committee: The 1999 Officials Clinics schedule was reviewed:
Advanced Clinic for Referees Olney, Thursday, 5/27/99 at 7:30pm
Officials Clinic - Olney, Sunday, 6/6/99 at 9:00am
Officials Clinic - RMSC, Saturday, 6/12/99 at 9:00am
Officials Clinic - Kenmont, Wednesday, 6/16/99 6:30pm
Stroke & Turn Clinic - Potomac Woods, Tues, 6/22/99 6:30pm
The Advanced Clinic is a re-certification for those who are already certified as Referees. Country Club certification does not qualify for MCSL certification. The MCSL does recognize PVS certification for Starters and Stroke & Turn (not Referee). You can send a copy of your PVS card to Peg Hincke for certification.
Please give any corrections or deletions to the Certified Officials List to Peg Hincke. All officials who were last certified in 1997 will be dropped from the list.
Marty Cohen is still collecting resumes from coaches. He also reported that the MCSL is investigating the possibility of having a representative from Colorado Systems provide a maintenance clinic in May. The cost would be about $50 for each starting device.
Special Olympics: Bill Nolte reported that the Montgomery County Special Olympics has started its training season. Anyone interested in mentoring a swimmer and getting community service hours can contact Dave Hammill. See the MCSL Web page for more information.
Rules Committee: Carol Nickel reminded the reps that all requests to change pools must be sent to her by May 15th.
Awards: Becca Peck will have the team ribbons and medals available at the May meeting. Each team should be sure to have a representative there to pick them up.
Team Information Sheets: Mary Parker accepted final changes to the Team Information Sheets. These changes will be incorporated in the 1999 Handbook. Additional changes may be made throughout the season and will be reflected on the MCSL Web page.
Automation: Bob Palian reported that the 1999 Division Rankings, Certified Officials List, and Special Olympics information have all been updated on the Web. We will continue to use the DOS version of Meet Manager this year. An updated handbook on how to use Hytek is being created and training sessions will be announced at the May meeting. Let Bob or Mike Lincoln know if you are interested in the training sessions.
Divisional Meetings: Marty Cohen reviewed the procedures for the Divisional meetings and the Representatives broke into groups by divisions.
Adjournment and Next Meeting: The meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm. The next meeting will be May 13th, 1999 at 8:00pm in the Executive Office Building Cafeteria.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Parker
Secretary
